Optimized WAN – Why it is Needed?

Commercial applications are being built with additional features and on centralized intelligence premise for better business continuity, disaster control and improved skillset management. These applications give advantage of minimal site level readiness and dependence of smooth and fault resilient services to all customers irrespective of their geographical locations. This technical advantage obviously impacts on the pay-load traffic and delay sensitivity of the branch and increases its WAN traffic requirement.
Luckily in Pakistan, all broadband providers are continuously improving their network reach in shape of Fiber and other delay efficient broadband mediums but still there are areas which are to be served on Satellite medium only by any service provider. Satellite bandwidth costs and delay sensitivity is always a critical call to make for centralized applications because of its inherent delays.
Optimized WAN is the only way forward in all such cases since it addresses delay inefficiency and improved payload resulting in reduced satellite bandwidths and thus improving OPEX of remote branches/site offices.

Wateen Optimized WAN Service:

Wateen is uniquely positioned in Pakistan’s ICT industry as it has all sort of broadband platforms available to offer to customers as per their needs and locations. It also has unique composition on satellite offering as it has two satellite hubs independently operating at Raiwind Lahore and Hyderabad sites. Using the same advantage, Wateen now plans to build another value edge for its customers to provide its Satellite services improved and rationalized for major applications needs.
In the planned model, Wateen would offer Centralized WAN optimizer boxes at its Satellite/Packet sites and optimize Satellite traffic before forwarding it to Customer’s Data Centre sites. These optimization boxes will take optimized branch traffic through satellite modems and routers with Optimized WAN blades. The entire service would be provided as a bundle solution including branch’s network evaluation, respective hardware arrangements, traffic optimization, integration, testing and support to go live.
